To preface, I was ready for a life change. The five years spent up until this point, I was a buyer, at what I consider my alma mater, the luxury e-commerce site, Moda Operandi. Summer was approaching and it was time to lay the Marni and Manolo’s to rest.
Beyond my fashion background, I am a naturalist at heart and was voracious to explore the natural world again. I lived in Jaipur, India in 2009 working for the Gem Palace and found myself whole while exploring and working so far away from home. This sense of self was something I was trying to come back to.
Therefore, at the age of 30, the height of my career, and after losing my mother suddenly, I knew it was time to blend my passions and get to the core of what would make me happy in this life. So I decided to create a formula as well as it’s solution. Nature + Fashion + Travel = Girl Gone Wild.
So, I went wild. I travelled to 23 countries in 12 months from May of 2017, kept journals of all my adventures and sought out off the beaten track journeys, in order to connect with cultures and their heritage. In each country, you will find my itinerary and raw footage; the places I visited, and notes on where to stay, eat and what to do. This is not a paid partnership and it is not photoshopped or contoured. Additionally, there is a shopping section which highlights local artisans and designers so that one can cut through the crap in a globe dominated by tourist attractions. In a world where artisanal goods are being supported but not often publicly credited, my aim is connect the consumer straight to the source, remove the middle man and retell the story of how and why these societies cultivated these crafts and the evolution behind it. The point is to get back to the natural state of things, literally and figuratively. We cannot lose our relationship with Earth and the culture and beauty it has bred, it is what connects us. Trust the wind, trust your eye and let’s go wild.
